Classical Music Competition rules

Individual - Solo 

  • There will be THREE age groups – Sub Junior for ages up to 12, Junior for ages from 13 to 18 and Senior for ages 19 and above. (Age should be calculated as of August 31, 2006)
  • If an applicant is competing in more than one category, a separate application form must be submitted for each category. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

Classical Karnatic Music- Vocal 

The competition is restricted to the compositions of Mysore Vaggeyakararu like Mysore Vasudevachar, Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, Muthiah Bhagavathar,  Veena Seshanna, Sadashiva Rao and others.   While only one composition may be sung, raga alapana, swara kalpana and nereval may be also rendered within the allotted time.

Light Classical Music – Vocal

The competition is restricted to compositions of Haridasas (like Purandaradasa, Kanakadasa and others), Vachanas (compositions of Basavanna, Akkamahadevi and any other Shivasharanas).

This could be in the Karnatic or Hindusthani style. 

Classical Music- Instrumental

Violin, Veena, Flute, Sarangi, Sitar, Saxaphone and others. 

Light Music – Instrumental: 

This competition is restricted to Kannada film songs, Kannada bhavageethe and Kannada jaanapadageethe.   

Percussion – Instrumental:  

Mridangam, Tabla, Ghatam, Kanjira, Morsing, and others.  

  • Time limit is five minutes for the Sub Juniors, 6 minutes for the Juniors and 7 minutes for the Seniors.  A buzzer will signal the conclusion of the allotted time.
  • The participants can sing can sing only one song during the allotted time. 
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
  • Failure to comply with these rules will result in immediate disqualification. Please make sure that your entry conforms to the rules and also keep strictly within the time limits.
  • All applications for registration must be received by July 1, 2006. Applications received after that date will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Participants should bring their own Sruthi Box.
  • In order to be fair and equitable, the conference competition committee may modify or change any of the rules stipulated without prior notice to participants.
  • A minimum of 5 participants is required for any category.

Group Singing

  • There is no age limit for group singing competation
  • Group should have minimum of five people
  • Group should bring their own accompaniments or orchestra
  • Songs should be either light music or light classical
