
Attorney Sheela Murthy
Sheela Murthy began her own law firm (Murthy law firm) in 1994 after gaining experience in top law firms in New York and Baltimore. Located on the outskirts of Baltimore, Maryland with a liaison office in Chennai, India, the Murthy Law Firm is considered one of the world’s premier U.S. immigration law firms, as confirmed by the U.K. based Chambers Global.
Having earned her LL.M. from Harvard Law School, Ms. Murthy has many honors to her credit. She is recognized as a Super Lawyer in Maryland, listed as one of the top U.S. immigration lawyers in the world in the Who's Who in Corporate Immigration Law, as one of Baltimore’s top twenty-five lawyers by the Baltimore Business Journal, a 2008 recipient of the Bravo! Award from SmartCEO Magazine, awarded to women entrepreneurs, and in June 2009 was a recipient of the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Maryland.
Ms. Murthy also has been certified by the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. She and her law firm were among only seven companies honored in 2008 with the Maryland International Global Award for contributions to international issues, presented by the State of Maryland.
Serving on several boards, including the American Immigration Law Foundation, the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, the Murthy Nayak Foundation, and Stevenson University, Ms. Murthy is active at the leadership level of nonprofit organizations including the United Way of Central Maryland and United Way International.
She has been recognized and honored for her philanthropic work in the United States and in India, and was named 2009 Philanthropist of the Year by United Way of Central Maryland at their annual Tocqueville Society Awards for her $1 million pledge announced in 2008.
Ms. Murthy is sought after as a motivational speaker for her passion and unique perspectives on life as an immigrant, a minority woman, and as a business leader.
