A. Drama Categories
- Three categories to which drama can be submitted for selection process;
- Historical/Pauranic
- Social/Comedy
- Dance-Drama/Yakshgana - Directors/Team Leads are free to decide the category their drama belongs to and submit the same for selection, though the final decision to categorize a drama and make a decision about its selection rests with the “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee”.
- Directors/Team Leads are free to submit more than one entry. Only one of their entries will be selected. In situations where more than one of their entries is deemed fit for presentation, directors/team leads will be given the choice to decide the one they would like to perform.
B.Stage Allocation
Allocation of the stage – main or secondary stage – will be done by the “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee”, in collaboration with the program committee.
C.Number of participants in the drama
Though there is no strict stipulation regarding the minimum number of people in a drama, monologues are not permitted. Artists who wish to present items such as monologues and stand-up comedy etc should contact appropriate committees dealing with “special talents”. All monologues and stand-up comedy submitted or decided as such by the drama committee will be passed on to the “special talent committee”
D.Green Room , Side-Wing and Stage
- Green room and back-stage/side-wing areas should be occupied only by the artists, director and up to a maximum of four people (for help), whose names should be pre-identified and given to the “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee” before the deadline.
- Team/people presenting the drama are responsible to clear (including all props, costumes and make-up kits) the stage, side-wing and green room after their presentation; a maximum of 15 minute will be given to each team for this purpose. “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee” is not responsible for any lost or un-collected items from the green room, side-wing or the stage.
E.Time Allocation and Adherence
- Dramas are categorized into two sections based on their time duration – 30/45 min plays and 1 hour plays.
- Dramas that are of less than 30 minutes duration but which are not more that 15 minutes are considered as short plays/skits. All the small plays/skits will be lined together within a performance window of one hour.
- Directors/Team leads should decide and indicate the duration of their play during the submission process. Once submitted and/or selected, requests for an increase in time duration will not be honored. However, teams can ask for a reduction in time duration after the drama is submitted and/or selected.
- The submission process requires that each applicant group send a minimum of 10-15 minute video clip for the play of less than 60 minute duration and a 20 minute video clip for a 60 minute play. For short/plays and skits, applicant should send the clip of the entire play. Audio/video materials of plays sent by participant groups will not be returned
- The time for each drama starts at the instant the screen is opened or background or foreground introduction starts. The introduction can be through any medium - audio, visual and etc.
- Directors/Team leads should make sure that the allocated time is honored. After the allocated time is expensed, control of the stage will be taken back by the “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee” and the play will be stopped by closing the screen, switching off the microphone etc.
- Every drama team should be ready (to start their play) and be present behind the stage or at a designated location at least half-an-hour before their set start time. If they are not ready, “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee” may/will decide to reschedule the drama (time permitting) or cancel the drama. “AKKA WKC 2010 Drama Committee” maintains the right for all decisions in this matter.
- A maximum of 5 minutes beyond their designated start time will be given to each team; any delay in starting the play beyond the 5 minutes will be deducted from their allocated time.
F.Emcee and Drama announcement
After the announcement of the drama by the emcee, Directors/Team leads can introduce the play. However, it should be noted that the clock for the allocated time starts as soon as the introduction starts.
F.Stage props, microphones and lighting
- Each team must furnish their own props.
- Every team should inform the “AKKA Drama Committee”, before the deadline, the number of microphones and other stage requirements they need. Ad-hoc requests will/may not be honored. “AKKA Drama Committee” will make all good-faith efforts but will not guarantee the availability of any or all requested materials.
- Operation of the microphone system and lights will be only be done by designated professionals and Directors/Team Leads can designate a maximum of one person each to assist the microphone and light operators
G.Language and stage decorum
- Due to high degree of subjectivity, all participants are requested to follow the honor system of following the generally accepted guidelines of decency in their presentation, including but not limited to language, costumes and gestures. Participants are requested to take note of the wide variety of audiences especially in terms age.
- Directors/Team leads are requested to follow the honor system of ensuring that most of the dialogs are in Kannada.
