We are pleased to announce that AKKA 2004 World
Kannada Conference was officially inaguarated this
morning at 10:15am EST by Honorable Deputy Chief
Minister of Karnataka, Sri. Siddaramaiah. Several
dignitaries from Karnataka were present for this
ceremony. Notable names such as former Chief Minister,
Sri. S.M. Krishna, Chief Secretary Govt. of Karnataka,
Sri. K.K. Mishra, Karnataka Poet and Litterateur Sri.
Baragur Ramachandrappa, Consul General of India to
Houston Sri. S.R.Tayal honored the inaguaration
ceremony.
On behalf of AKKA and Srigandha Kannada Koota of
Florida, Dr. Renuka Ramappa, Chairperson of AKKA WKC
2004 gave the welcome address. Vijayanagar Vaibhava
Meravanige was the first event of the day. Cultural
programs immediately followed the inaguaration
ceremony. To the tune of a specially created song,
Tampa Bay children performed the Deepanjali dance,
Hacchevu Kannadadaa Deepa. The dance depicted children
in a variety of Karnataka costumes and signified the
bearing of the AKKA torch by second generation
Amerikannadigas. The national anthems of India and USA
were sung at the ceremony.

Gaylord Palms Resort officials are keeping a close
watch on Hurricane Frances. So far, Orlando has seen
minimal rain and has not interrupted the AKKA WKC 2004
convention proceedings.
