February 1,
2002
My Dear Kannadigas,
My Dear Kannadigas,
Detroit being my adopted hometown, I am very proud and
honored to invite you to the 2002 AKKA World Kannada
Conference to be held at the Detroit Marriott-Renaissance
Center on August 30, August 31 and September 1, 2002.
AKKA was established during the 1998 Kannada Conference
in Phoenix. Thereafter, the Millennium Kannada Conference
in Houston proved to be a huge success. AKKA has sponsored
a number of cultural projects including the publication
of Kuvempu's complete literary works and the splendid
Manuja Matha Vishwa Patha by C. Aswash, renowned composer/music
director.
Since the beginning of its term, the new AKKA board
has moved swiftly to promote and enhance the image of
the organization. There have already been several noteworthy
events, including my receipt of the Rajyotsava Award
on behalf of AKKA, on November 1, 2001.
So, despite the horrors of September 11, 2001, let us
stand united in following the wisdom of President Bush's
plea to "go out and lead a normal life" and continue
to keep our spirits high.
In looking ahead to the 2002 Conference in Detroit,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members
of Pampa Kannada Koota for their overwhelming response
and last minute support. I also appreciate the continued
support of all of the other members of AKKA and other
Kannada Kootas in forming a 2002 Conference committee.
Leaders of the local and surrounding Kannada Kootas
are working hard towards a successful event.
We expect the honorable Chief Minister S.M. Krishna,
Dr. Raj Kumar and other Karnataka dignitaries to help
set the mood for two days filled with professional and
cultural enrichment. And oh, yes . . . there will be
authentic Karnataka cuisine!
Finally, your financial support is greatly appreciated.
When you complete and return the attached registration
and other forms (also available on our Web site, www.akkaonline.org),
please enclose a generous check, payable to "AKKA Conference".
Join me at the 2002 Conference. Spread the word about
this great event to your friends. Everyone's participation
and financial support are vital not only to the success
of the 2002 Conference, but the long-term interests
of AKKA as well. Sincerely,
Sincerely,

Amarnath Gowda
President
Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA)
